Imagery Outside rain fell with such violence that great, pulsating sheets of water seemed to hang suspended between Earth and sky. (130) he was so deep in thought that his pork chop tasted no different from his whipped cream and jello.(131) Foreshadowing Sombre gray eyes glinted in Teddys pale,

triangular face. (130) Yes, they were paper dolls. There was no King Theodore, no Emperor Kang, no Theodoresburg, no Upalia, no Danova. There was only an attic full of preposterous cardboard buildings and ridiculous paper people.(133) Hyperbole The next thing we know, youll be wanting us to put skirts on you!(133)

He just about lives up there, doesnt he?(132) Personification If the Upalian army crossed the Tabelian marshes, they might succeed in encircling the Danovans (131) King Theodore watched his army march out to give battle to the enemy. (131)

The Plot of : The Fall of a City By Katrina Cearns Introduction/Exposition In the centre of the room stood a fort and a palace, painstakingly constructed from corrugated cardboard cartons.(130) From the turreted roof of the palace, hung a green, white and gold tri-colour, the flag of the

kingdom of Upalia (130) Inciting Incident/Inciting Force He sighed. This was his aunt, shouting from the foot of the stairs. Teddy! He opened the door. Yeah? he called sulkily. Come down here this minute and get ready for supper! How many times do I have to call you?(131)

Rising Action/Complication His aunt glared at him. Dont say huh when you answer me. Look what youve done! Youve spilled cream all over yourself. (131) Crises His uncle gave him a disdainful look. He just about lives up there, doesnt he? Yes. I think its about time that one of us went

up there and found out what hes been doing. (132) Major Crises They looked pretty much like paper dolls to me. Paper dolls and doll houses. An elevenyear-old boy! The man choked, trying to restrain his laughter. The next thing we know, youll be wanting us to put skirts on you! (133)

Climax He bent and seized the cardboard palace. Gritting his teeth and grunting, he tore at its walls.(133) Conclusion The corrugated board was sturdy: he was crying by the time he finished tearing it to

shreds.(133) Characters Protagonist, and other characters. Protagonist Character traits of Teddy Creative: Quote: Their two dimensional bodies

scissored from paper, their faces and clothing drawn in crayon and lead pencil. Page 130 ImaginativeQuote: Hes got his head in the clouds again. His uncle laughed. His round, florid : face reflected on his resemblance to Zikla, Duke of Anders. Page 132. Quote: They look pretty much like dolls to

Misunderstoo me. Paper dolls and doll houses. An elevend: year-old boy! Page 133. Alone: Quote: He spent most of the afternoon in the attic. He just about lives up there, doesnt he? Page 132.

Other Characters Teddys Aunt: She doesnt understand why Teddy stays in the attic often. She finds it funny how he plays with paper dolls. Although, she seems sympathetic near the end of the story. Teddys

Uncle: Laughs at Teddys enjoyment of the city hes created. Always seems to push Teddy around. Insists that Teddy should be wearing skirts. Echo in the Story Loss of Innocence.

This links to the story because Teddy is told what he should be doing, instead of what he wishes to do. Is told that paper dolls and doll houses arent for him. His aunt and uncle cause him to totally destroy his city.

This also means that he doesnt believe that he can always dream for himself, nor could he be a dreamer. Quote from the story: [SOURCE] http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr341/ cowgirl9768/boy-child-child-abuse-crying-hurtmean-Favim_com-59971-1.jpg
