Rural Response - DC MOVES

Rural Response - DC MOVES

Rural Response Program Pilot Project Overview (Funded by MCSS 2016-2018) Rural Response Counsellor provided mobile and remote access to VAW services up to 6 crisis counselling sessions, providing women with abuse education, safety planning, and appropriate community referrals Meet women where they feel most comfortable whether it be in their home, in the community, or at the office. Ability to be mobile has allowed program to break down barriers to accessing service such as lack of transportation, lack of child care, or lack of anonymity. Use technology to communicate with clients differently in order to eliminate barriers. Text messaging has proven to be the most popular method of communication. 92 women across rural north Dufferin county connected with VAW counselling + 257 referrals

Small town lack of anonymity if home visits arent a possibility Difficulty reaching diverse communities Need more than a central rural based satellite office in order to accommodate privacy concerns and the large geographical catchment area From an intersectionality lens trying to reach a large geographical area with one staff person is challenging to accomplish Successes Social Media Ad Facebook advertisement reached over 10k people, had 133 shares and 154 likes-FTPs most successful online marketing campaign to date Connections built with Community Partners

provided have been in the community or a clients home Alternative ways of communicating with clients include 26 email conversations 408 text conversations 235 telephone contacts 2 videoconferencing sessions November 2017 the program was recognized by the Dufferin Board of Trade with the Innovator of the Year Award Clients gained knowledge, coping skills, and safety strategies after Rural Response counselling

(survey sample n=20) Both clients and service delivery partners described positive impacts from the program What clients said: At the time without this service things would have been very hopeless. I don't think I would have been able to find resources on my own. I feel strong again, feel I have the power to go on & fight for my life. I wouldn't change a thing, I think it's an amazing program that will help many. What service providers said: This program has literally saved livesThis program is the working example of what reducing barriers looks like! I think FTP and the program

continues to excel in providing as many services to as many persons as humanly possibleKeep up the good work. Has definitely increased our services in the rural areas of Dufferin, especially with Shelburne Referral Process Samantha McCabe Rural Response Counsellor 519-939-3423 [email protected]
