FROM THE BOARD CHAIRI would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors of the David Posnack JCC for electing meas the new Board Chair for 2014-2015. I welcome our new Board of Directors, officers and staff, as we work together to make our J the best it can be.I have been involved with the JCC for the past 22 years, since I moved here fromKendall after Hurricane Andrew. My family right away took advantage of themany great programs that the J had to offer—from summer camp, racquetball, basketball, swimming, to dance lessons (my wife owes me one for that), andmuch more as the years passed. I learned through these years what a great placeour community center was, and I also had the opportunity to see it grow into aneven better facility as we expanded. There truly is something for everyone, whether you are a child, a newlywed or a senior.I feel very fortunate to be serving as board chair during what will be a milestonein the JCC’s history—the hosting of the 2015 JCC Maccabi Games & ArtsFest .This exciting event will be held on our campus and throughout Broward Countyfor the first time. It is a great opportunity to “galvanize” the community, and Ilook forward to working with all Broward County Jewish agencies to bringeveryone together with one common goal – strengthen and improve our Jewishcommunity. As you read this, the Jewish holidays are quickly approaching. At this time, Iwould like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.Lee KadinFROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERMany of us have a special place (in addition to home) where we just love tobe–where we feel comfortable, welcome and happy–a place we think of as “oursecond home.” It is my hope that the J is that place for you and your family–yoursecond home. Our staff works very hard to offer the best programming and customer servicepossible for our membership. The end goal is for our J to be YOUR happy place–your home away from home, to gain knowledge, stay fit, enjoy sports, watchyour children prosper and embrace our wondrous heritage. Our program guideand website are filled with classes, programs and activities for you and your family to enjoy and become involved. As we look to the future, we are now less than a year away from hosting thebiggest Jewish event in the history of Broward County. In August 2015 close to1,200 teen athletes and artists and thousands of spectators will head to southFlorida for the JCC Maccabi Games & Artsfest . “It takes teamwork to make adream work,” and we need volunteers in many capacities; we need housing forthe visiting athletes/artists, and local teen athletes/artists to sign up and be partof our JCC’s largest delegation to the Games and Artsfest since we began participating in 1999.To be part of the team making this momentous event happen, contact our Maccabi office at 954-434-0499, ext.348, [email protected] or visit www.fortlauderdalemaccabi for more information.I look forward to seeing you at the J.Scott Ehrlich2
